Статья посвящена концептам «нация» в целом и «русская нация» в частности в трудах И.А. Ильина. Источниковедческий подход позволил автору вычленить особенности концепции русской нации, представленной в работах философа, а также сопоставить приводимые в этих трудах характеристики русской и западноевропейских наций. Предпринята попытка осмысления роли данных концептов в политико-философском построении мыслителя.

Specific Characteristics of Russian Nation through Ivan Ilyin’s Understanding

Famous twentieth century thinker Ivan Ilyin is among the few Russian philosophers who consistently developed the political and philosophical concept of patriotism. At a time when the political elite of Russia and its leader made this concept practically the official doctrine of the state, studying the primary source of this ideology seems me very topical historical and philosophical task.
In this article, I make an attempt to consider concept of the nation defined and developed in Ivan Ilyin’s works and the distinction he made between Russian and Western types of national mentality. I believe that to answer questions about what philosopher understood by the term ‘nation,’ and what makes his understanding unique, is possible if we use the methods of source and textual (discursive) analysis and intellectual reconstruction of the philosopher's stream of thought, not so much analytical as a synthetic one.
Using such approaches, I reveal the role of concepts of ‘nation’ in whole and ‘Russian nation’ (and ‘Russian nationalism’) in particularly in Ilyin’s political-philosophical pattern. In his writings, Ivan Ilyin frequently indicated the factors that had the great impact on the formation of the Russian nation. Philosopher mentioned not only external conditions such as living ones, way of life, family ties, and language (often referred to by many thinkers ever since Montesquieu), but also internal, which included a way of understanding, contemplation, religious feeling, etc. Ivan Ilyin points out the differences between the Western and Russian mentality, looking at them through the religious angle, the difference between Eastern and Western churches. The historical events related to the participation of the people or held on site, according to philosopher, contributed to development of unique national characteristics, such as spiritual patience and generosity. He also pays great attention to monarchy as Russian historical form of government.
I come to the conclusion that the attractiveness of Ivan Ilyin’s politico-philosophical doctrine for the modern ruling elite of Russia and its leader is due to two main factors. On the one hand, this is a huge (and increasing with the increase of mental and political alienation from the West) political request of Russian society to see a nationally engaged government imbued with a genuine patriotic spirit. On the other hand, the national doctrine of Ilyin is developed in perfection and is set out in the same perfect language that is actually reduced to formulas that are both simple and saturated with meaning and emotional charge. This makes it possible to use this philosophical doctrine as state ideology.
