Despite a significant number of publications of historical and philosophical studies, penetration into the work of thinkers of the past remains an attractive direction of philosophical reflection, since it allows us to identify and rethink the conceptual, spiritual and metaphysical foundations of the modern world order.

My introduction in heading ‘Achievements in Science to Understand the World: History of Philosophical Thought from the View of Young Researchers’ of Studia studiosorum project thematic issue is short polemic review of young philosophy historians’ studies published here. All these articles, although at first glance, are devoted to well-developed historical-philosophical problems, have obvious research novelty and author's originality. Young philosophers’ studies cover a wide range of issues, which, however, have the ‘common denominator’ of native and alien culture perception problem. The range of studied philosophers is also wide: authors focused on ideas of famous Russian thinker Ivan Ilyin, equally well known 20th-century German philosopher Martin Heidegger and much less well-known in Russia ‘Boston Confucianists’ Du Weiming and R.K. Neville. Publications are presented in heading in chronological order, in accordance with the years of life and work of philosophers, whose concepts are considered by young authors. This allows us to trace changing philosophical perception of native and other culture during one century, taking into account the differences in thinkers' national (state) belonging (Russia, Germany, the United States).

As a discussion, I emphasize the danger of apologetic perception of specific philosophical concepts and philosophers (considering that risk of turning from analyst into enthusiastic admirer of personality of studying philosopher is great for a novice philosophy historian). In turn, the young researcher of philosophical ideas should also remember that they are formed in specific historical conditions and are filled with specific content, which must also be taken analytically (critically). This applies in particular to Ilyin's idea of patriotism, which cannot be mechanically transferred to the present day, since pride for the native nation does not imply animus toward other ones, but is based on respect for all of them.

At the same time, I conclude that the philosophical texts that cause a desire to polemize with their authors can be considered with good reason to be successful.

Keywords: young historians of philosophy; perception of culture; discussion of philosophical research; patriotism; critical philosophical approach; apologetic philosophical approach.
