The last quarter of the 20th century was marked by such serious changes in the structure of biology that they can be safely qualified as revolutionary. Therefore, it's no stretch to believe that surrounding reality may be called the century of biology and medicine. Today, a fundamentally new system of problems has been formed, and for this array of issues, the convergence of fundamental cognitive tasks with purely practical ones is typical, and the set of considered problem is primarily determined by the hierarchical level of living structures: molecular-cellular, organismic, population-species and biospheric. Against this background, medicine began to perform unifying and coordinating functions in the biological sciences, the consequence of which was the formation of biomedicine as a new, strategic scientific direction for the 21st century.
In my brief introduction to heading ‘Advances in Human Sciences’, in which novice life scientists’ articles have been collected I show that the success of their practical and theoretical studies is associated with a broad interdisciplinary approach. Such approach is essentially an amalgam of subject discourses (biomedical as such, historical-civilizational, and sociological). Of course, research advisors of several authors can rightfully share the success of their enquiries and papers. However, in this case too, we are dealing with completely independent, high-quality, and sometimes simply brilliant developments, problem statements and conclusions in which make it possible to attribute them as unique studies.
It is well known that the qualitative leaps in science development almost always have a methodological character, substantially changing the worldview concepts (paradigms) prevailing in science. Although so far the materials presented in this issue of e-Almanac cannot be viewed in like manner, I conclude that there is no doubt that the authors of these articles are on this path. Being a supporter of Steven Shapin's views on non-professional audience’s impact on science development of, I also hope that the articles presented in this issue will resonate with such non-professional audience and will contribute to the development of medical biology, the practical application of its achievements, promote the development and implementation of creative interests of our readers.
Keywords: novice life scientists; amalgam of subject discourses; interdisciplinary approach; biomedicine; influence of non-professional audiences on science development.
