The Touchstone of Future. Special Youth Issue of e-Almanac through the Eyes of Its Editor-in-Chief.

The problem of the attitude to the young researcher, their achievements and scientific value of their results are acute for school teachers / professorate and publishers of scientific media in the face of rapid knowledge renewal and the early entering of new researchers’ generations into science.

This paper is an introduction to special (thematic) issue of e-Almanac Space and Time entitled “Studia Studiosorum: Achievements of Young Researchers,” in which the articles of young researchers aged 12 to 30 that were selected, edited and published by the efforts of the youth editorial board only (which included postgraduate students, masters and students also aged under 30). Using conceptual, semantic and critical analysis, as well as narrative method, I consider essence of terms ‘success’, ‘advances’, and ‘achievements’ in respect to novice researcher’s scientific activity and such success factors, as (i) the ability of students themselves to learn and work with various science information sources and, after all, to think independently, (ii) presence of novelty in the results of their study, (iii) the attitude of professorate towards the students’ independent scientific researches. Among failure factors I attribute plagiarism, the lack of independence of research work or its pseudo-scientific nature, and also the unwillingness to write articles in accordance with the requirements of the journal. At the same time, I note that compared to works of, for example, American and West European coevals who mainly are at work upon case studies, Russian researchers are more interested in fundamental, applied and source studies.

I draw a conclusion about the need to enlarge the number of participants of our projects and expand its readership and I hope for the emergence of new development partners of this project from among both interested individuals and organizations.
