The Pre-Caspian depression is markedly different in its intrinsic special arrangement of hydrocarbon deposits. All major deposits are located in margins of depression, regardless of the geological structure and history of the enclosing deposits of the structural-rock complexes. During the 1980s and early 1990s, ones believed that large and giant hydrocarbon deposits may be located in the central part of Pre-Caspian depression, later that they occur only at great depths. It is obvious that such submissions were based on the known fact of the presence of thick sediment cover in the central part of depression.

According to the hypothesis of Prof. M.V. Mints, geological boundaries in the Pre-Caspian depression form the nested into each other oval structure. The reflections from discontinuities are forming along these oval structures. Oval structure itself was formed by vortex displacement of a substance plume. In my article, I make an assumption about possible future petroleum potential of the Pre-Caspian depression.

A significant sign of the possible presence of hydrocarbons is the lack of end-to-end oblique crossing (listric faults) by the broken violation of the proposed reservoir.

Areas of the destruction in central part of the Pre-Caspian depression are favorable for the formation of industrial deposits of hydrocarbons. On the another hand, this factor hampers the forming within the sedimentary cover and/or inside the top of the consolidated crust large structures, shielding the waves of stress and strain, which contribute to the localization of hydrocarbons. Therefore, in the Central part of the depression, there may be a separate but minor size hydrocarbon deposits. Individual deposits in deep horizons may be represented by zones of faulting, but the probability of their presence is not high.

I develop model of the Pre-Caspian depression deep structure that was consistent with both DSS and CMP data. Using regional DSS profiles (Manash–Karachaganak, Orenburg–Emba River, Krasnodar–Emba River, Elista–Buzuluk, Zamyany–Vyazovka, and Volgograd–Nakhichevan) and CMP profiles (EV-1, NG-9, and Batolit-2), I suggest model corresponded to the methodological approach in seismic data interpretation that I reported at the Tectonic conference in 2012. This model explains why there are no hydrocarbon deposits in the central part of the Pre-Caspian depression. In accordance with the latest seismic data interpretation the model of consolidated crust and lower level of depositional sequence of rock of Astrakhan fold was corrected and improved. In my article, I also discuss possible reasons for developing dipping reflectors in Pre-Caspian depression and its margins.

In particular, I conclude that, on the one hand, destruction-through zones in the central part of depressions, existing over the entire period of its evolution are favorable factor for the receipt of thermal energy and deep fluids required for the formation of industrial processes of hydrocarbon deposits. On the other hand, in the sedimentary cover and / or upper crust, the same factor complicates formation of large structures shielding the wave of stress and strain, which contributes to the localization of hydrocarbons. Therefore, there may be certain hydrocarbon deposits of minor size in the central part of depressions. Some deposits in the deeper horizons may be represented by zones of faults, but the probability of their presence is not high.
